On Monday, the Palo Alto City Council plans to discuss the landfill, Foothills Park, green building, the proposed Environmental Commission and Iran.
Iran is quite far from Palo Alto, but if the United States intervenes, "Palo Altans would be impacted directly and indirectly by an expensive and unnecessary military campaign," a memo drafted by council members LaDoris Cordell, Judy Kleinberg and Peter Drekmeier states.
The council opposed the military campaign in Iraq, the memo points out.
The three urge their colleagues to call on "the United States government to refrain from any preemptive action in dealing with any unconfirmed threat of military force by Iran and to use all peaceful means possible to arrive at a diplomatic resolution of any confirmed threat that may jeopardize lives and property in Iran or elsewhere."
The meeting begins at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10.
