Mountain View police ask for gifts for kids

More than 1,700 children are expected to gather at the Mountain View Police Department Dec. 22 for the department's fifth annual "Cops That Care" holiday gift-giving event.

The event was started by Officer Ron Cooper and provides toys and other gifts to children whose families may not be able to afford to buy them.

The department welcomes donations of gifts for the Dec. 22 event, which may be dropped off at the police/fire auditorium at 1000 Villa St.

The gift-giving event will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 22. Parents attending with their children will be asked to show identification or proof of their children's affiliation to Mountain View.

I am a teacher in Mt. View, but live in Palo Alto. There are many kids who have so little who live in the city. Please donate anything you can. It will make many children so happy at Christmas.

I am wondering ~if there are any left over donations that don't get picked up by the Mt. View families, perhaps the police could donate the remainder of the gifts to the Santa Clara County Childrens Shelter in San Jose...I think that would be totally appropriate and appreciated by the children there, going through trama, especially at this time of year.
