A Palo Alto police officer and a lieutenant were shaken up when their patrol car was broad-sided by another car while they were driving to assist other officers Friday afternoon.
The crash occurred about 3 p.m. at Charleston and San Antonio roads.
The lieutenant and officer were driving with lights and siren to respond to a request for assistance from officers who had made a traffic stop on Ross Road only to see the driver flee on foot from the scene, police Agent Dan Ryan said.
The officer and lieutenant were taken to Stanford Hospital and later released after being examined, Ryan said. One has a minor concussion.
Police never did find the motorist who ran away but recovered drugs and drug-related items from his car. "We think we know who he is," Ryan said.
