An 84-year-old man was struck and injured by a car Tuesday night in Palo Alto. The man is in serious but stable condition at Stanford Hospital, being treated for a broken leg and possible head injuries, Sgt. Sandra Brown said.
The man was crossing Embarcadero Road mid-block near Waverley Street at 8:55 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Prius traveling westbound at the speed limit, Brown said. The man was wearing dark clothing.
Brown said the man might not have heard the car, which is a hybrid and is almost silent when running on its electric motor, Brown added.
