Atherton parcel tax fails again A special parcel tax measure, which provides about a quarter of Atherton's town revenues, fell short of the two-thirds' vote required to pass in the March 7 election. The vote on Measure C was 50.42 percent in favor, and 49.58 percent opposed, according to the San Mateo County elections department. The vote count was 1,371 for, and 1,348 against. This was the town's second attempt to pass the measure, which would have reauthorized the town to tax residents up to $750 for a typical parcel for another four years. In November, Atherton residents voted 50.22 percent in favor of the measure, and 49.78 against. |
