Animal Services provides lost-animal recovery, pet adoption, vaccination, licensing services and low-cost spay and neutering for residents of all cities. Hours: Mon-Sat 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Closed Sundays and holidays, and every other Friday. Palo Alto Humane Society

Devoted to the protection and welfare of animals on the Midpeninsula, the Humane Society provides education programs, resources and emergency advice. It is not a shelter and does not have animal control officers. Call 650-424-1901. www.paloaltohumane.org

Pets In Need

Pets In Need is the first No-Kill Adoption Shelter serving the Peninsula and Greater Silicon Valley. It is a 501(c)3 non profit and receives no local, state or federal tax support. Hours: Thu-Sat 11 a.m.-6:15 p.m.; Sun 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Call 650-367-1405. www.petsinneed.org

Wildlife Rescue, Inc.
Cubberley Community Center, 4000 Middlefield Road, Bldg. V, Palo Alto.

An environmental/wild animal's organization that focuses on rehabilitation of local wildlife and fostering public awareness. Wildlife Rescue provides care for animals in the shelter and staffs a wildlife hotline. Basic Training courses for new volunteers are taught March-July. For volunteer opportunities call 650-494-7926. Birds and animals must be brought to the shelter. Wildlife Rescue serves the cities of Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Stanford and Mountain View.
