Identification placards for the disabled
People with disabilities who are mobility-impaired may apply to the California Department of Motor Vehicles for a placard to carry with them for display on the dashboard of the car in which they are riding. This enables the vehicle to park in spaces designated Handicapped Only. Fees apply for some types of placards. Doctor or physician certification required. Ridesharing
RIDES for Bay Area Commuters Inc. organizes carpools and vanpools and provides program services for people in seven of the nine Bay Area counties. Also provides personalized commute consultations. Safe Ride
American Red Cross program run by high school students. This service provides a safe ride home on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m.-1:30 a.m., but is only for high school students. Service runs during academic school year (September-June). Call 877-753-RIDE (7433).
