Baylands Beautification
This fun morning will offer an opportunity to participate in a number of beautification service projects at the Baylands, including creating wildlife habitat through mulching, feeding native plants and creating protected areas for beneficial plants and insects. A light lunch on the EcoCenter deck will be offered. Aug. 15, 10 a.m.-noon. Free. EcoCenter, 2560 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto.

Junior League Open House (Aug. 20)
The Junior League of Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula will hold an open house where prospective members can meet current members and learn about the organization's activities. Light refreshments will be served. Aug. 20, 6:30-8 p.m. Free. The Gatehouse, 555 Ravenswood Ave., Menlo Park.

Greeter and peer counselor recruitment
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is recruiting new peer counselors and greeters to help with its programs and services during Community Outreach events held from April to June and September to November. The organization seeks working or retired professionals, as well those with no experience, who are emotionally stable. The time commitment is about two to four hours per month. Training will be provided. March-August. Free. Location varies, Palo Alto and Mountain View, .

Canary Challenge volunteer oppportunities
The Canary Challenge, a fully supported bike ride raising money for early cancer detection research, needs volunteers to help run the event. Opportunities include helping staff the volunteer, registration and gift bag booths and rest stops; supervising the kids zone; providing course directional support; and more.
